President of Azerbaijan meets with Queen Elizabeth II

Chairman of the Committee Michael Gapes emphasized the importance of the visit of Azerbaijani leader for the development of bilateral relations, press service of the President told APA. He said meeting with the President of Azerbaijan created good opportunity for exchanging of opinions on the processes in the country and region and global issues as well. Gapes underlined the successes Azerbaijan achieved in the energy sector.

President Aliyev said relations between the two countries were successfully developing in various spheres. He spoke about the development of Azerbaijan and constant extension of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

The president emphasized an active political dialogue between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom and said there was successful cooperation in the fields of energy, security, participation in the anti-terror coalition and other spheres. The head of state spoke about the Azerbaijan’s role in the European energy security and its prospects and said the country became main energy supplier for Europe. President Aliyev informed the British parliamentarians about the negotiations over the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.

On July 14, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Buckingham Palace and had a dinner with Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

The President of Azerbaijan also met with chairman of the British Council Sir Gerard Lemos. The head of state highly appreciated the activity of the British Council in Azerbaijan and said there were all opportunities for the continuation of this activity.

Sir Gerard Lemos informed about the future plans of the British Council in Azerbaijan and said the British Council, which chose teaching of English as a main direction of its activity, was also planning to carry out the cultural projects in Azerbaijan.

President Ilham Aliyev met with UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Ed Miliband on July 14. They expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. The document signed between SOCAR and BP during the visit demonstrates reliable energy partnership between the two countries and existence of good prospects for the cooperation.

The sides exchanged views on the prospects of energy cooperation.
