The FIFA Council has officially appointed Armenia and Georgia as co-hosts of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029, mediamax sport reports.
This announcement was made during a FIFA Council meeting ahead of the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Canada.
Armenia and Georgia first announced their joint bid in June 2024.
This is a major achievement for both countries. The U-20 World Cup is FIFA's third-largest tournament after the men's and women's World Cups, featuring 24 national teams. It has historically been a launchpad for future football stars.
Armenia has committed to building an 11,000-seat stadium in Vanadzor and a 10,000-seat stadium in Ijevan for the tournament. The new stadiums will be located near the border with Georgia, facilitating the joint hosting arrangement.
This tournament represents a major opportunity for football development and infrastructure improvement in both countries, with facilities that will continue serving domestic championships long after the World Cup concludes.
