Chelsea’s second all-time leading scorer is dead

Chelsea legend and the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time, Bobby Tambling, has died at the age of 84 after a long illness, PM News reports.

Tambling, who spent a decade at Stamford Bridge, held Chelsea’s all-time goalscoring record for 47 years before former England midfielder Frank Lampard surpassed his tally in 2013.

The former forward remains one of the greatest players in Chelsea’s history, having scored 202 goals in all competitions for the Blues. He still holds the club record for the most league goals, with 164 strikes.

Tambling made his Chelsea debut as a 17-year-old in February 1959 and quickly established himself as one of the most prolific forwards of his generation.

During a distinguished playing career, he represented Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and England, earning widespread admiration for his goalscoring ability and commitment on the pitch.

After leaving Chelsea in 1969, Tambling joined Crystal Palace before moving to Ireland, where he played for Cork Celtic, Waterford, Shamrock Rovers, and Cork Alberts.

His death was announced by Crosshaven AFC, which paid tribute to him as both a football icon and a remarkable individual.
