Annual Meeting of ADB Board of Governors to be held in Baku

The Ministry told APA-Economics that this agreement regulates the issues between Azerbaijani government and ADB on holding of annual meeting of Board of Governors of ADB in Baku on May 3-5, 2015.

 

During the visit, Sharifov got acquainted with the preparation and organizational activities for the annual meeting, as well as hold discussions with bank’s high-level officials on bilateral cooperation with the Bank and Azerbaijani government.

 

During the meeting with Azerbaijani delegation, ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda said that being one of the shareholders of the bank, Azerbaijan was an active participants of ADB and the country played a leading role in future progress of the region with its dynamically developing economy.

 

‘By hosting the 48th Annual Meeting of ADB Board of Governors worthily, Baku will prove that it is a reliable partner of ADB,’ noted Kuroda. He noted that the annual meeting brings together ministers and high level officials, as well as more than 4,000 business leaders, international financial institutions, media representatives from 67 member states.

 

Sharifov expressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with ADB and this visit aims to expand the existing relations.

 

‘Annual meeting of Board of Governors of ADB, to be held in May of 2015 in Baku, will be organized at a high level and Azerbaijani government will fulfill all the tasks entrusted to it as a host country. Country’s practice in this sphere, current economic situation, political stability, at the same time, city’s infrastructure corresponding high standards allow holding of such significant events’, he added.

 
As a part of the visit, Sharifov met with ADB Vice-Presidents Xiaoyu Zhao and Lakshmi Venkatachalam, Secretary Robert Dawson and Australian Executive Director Richard Sisson. The sides focused on preparation for Baku meeting, transport, energy, infrastructure, water supply, sanitation and implementation status of other projects and future cooperation directions, mutual exchange of experience, as well as implementation status of financing of the projects in private sector, regional development and other issues.

 

Note that, The Asian Development Bank, ADB, was founded in 1966 and has 67 members. Azerbaijan received the membership of ADB in 1999.
