Russia's "AlfaStrakhovanie" company will pay 2 million rubles, or approximately AZN 38,000, for each passenger involved in the crash of an AZAL plane near Aktau, said Ilya Kabachnik, AlfaStrakhovanie Deputy General Director for Aviation and Space Insurance, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that the passenger transportation process for the AZAL Baku-Grozny flight is regulated by the 1999 Montreal Convention, to which both Azerbaijan and Russia are parties. Since the contract between "Alfa Insurance" and AZAL covers risks for flights to Russia, payments are also made in accordance with Russia’s mandatory carrier liability law, 67-FZ.
"According to this law, the payment amount for damage to life and health has been set at 2 million rubles, and once the necessary documents are submitted, the payments can be made promptly," Ilya Kabachnik added.
