Baku-APA. The Netherlands will join a new international NATO mission to Afghanistan with up to 100 soldiers, the Dutch government told parliament Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The NATO mission, led by Germany, aims to train Afghan soldiers and police in the north of the country from Jan. 1, 2015.
In June, Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans and Defense Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert announced the possibility of a new, limited mission in northern Afghanistan.
The last Dutch mission, also a police training mission, lasted from June 2011 to July 2013. This mission was preceded by a military mission in Uruzgan, Afghanistan from 2006 until 2010.
