NATO chief welcomes last ISAF command handover

Baku-APA. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Tuesday welcomed the handover of the last International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) command, APA reports quotnig Xinhua.

 

ISAF is a NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan that was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2001. It will end its mission at the end of 2014.

 

"Today, General John F. Campbell assumed command of ISAF from General Joseph F. Dunford. I wish him every success and I look forward to working closely with him," said Rasmussen in a statement.

 

He said General Campbell is taking up his post at an important time for Afghanistan and for ISAF mission. "I am confident that General Campbell will lead ISAF through an orderly completion at the end of this year and guide our efforts to continue to support the Afghan Security Forces, once the required legal framework is in place," he said.

 

He also expressed thanks to General Dunford, adding that "I am confident that he will bring the same remarkable skills and commitment to his new role as Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps."
