The European Union has faced losses of 25 billion euros due to rising energy resource prices as a result of military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference on the results of the EU informal summit held in Cyprus, APA reports.
The head of the European Commission linked the EU’s significant economic losses to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on key trade routes and energy supplies to the region.
“During the 54 days since the beginning of the conflict, our spending on hydrocarbon resources has increased by 25 billion euros, although we have not bought even one molecule more than before. Therefore, we must accelerate the implementation of alternative energy sources,” she noted.
