Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, APA reports citing Turkish media.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Turkey and the U.S., as well as regional and global issues, were discussed. According to a statement from the Communications Directorate, President Erdoğan expressed his full belief that Türkiye and the U.S., as two allies, would advance their cooperation in the new era in a spirit of solidarity, results-oriented, and sincerely.

EMPHASIS ON PERMANENT PEACE

President Erdoğan stated that the regional and global developments necessitated increasing consultations between Türkiye and the U.S. on all matters, and that they supported U.S. President Trump's decisive and direct initiatives to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that Türkiye has been striving for a just and lasting peace since the beginning of the war and will continue to do so.

SANCTIONS ON SYRIA

During the meeting, President Erdoğan emphasized the importance of jointly contributing to the lifting of sanctions on Syria for the restoration of stability, making the new administration functional, and normalization, stating that this would enable Syrians to return to their homeland.

ERDOĞAN STRESSED THE NECESSITY OF ENDING CAATSA SANCTIONS

President Erdoğan indicated that steps are expected from the U.S. in the new era regarding the fight against terrorism, with an understanding that takes Türkiye's interests into account. He stated that it is necessary to conclude the end of CAATSA sanctions, finalize the F-16 procurement process, and resolve Türkiye's re-participation in the F-35 program to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry.
