Kyiv has concluded it cannot count on Washington's support following the extension of sanctions waivers on Russian oil, APA reports citing The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, after the outbreak of the war with Iran, the Trump administration issued sanctions waivers for Russian oil already at sea. The newspaper reports that in early April, Ukrainian officials visited Washington and asked the American side not to extend the waiver. According to two Ukrainian officials, they were told the waiver would expire.
The US presidential administration then extended the sanctions waiver. "This episode underscored that Kyiv cannot count on Washington," Ukrainian officials told the newspaper.
