Turkish Foreign Ministry condemns Barack Obamaâ€™s statement

Turkish Foreign Ministry’s statement notes with regret that Obama demonstrated pro-Armenian approach again: “We indignantly condemn this problematic statement that distorts historical facts. Such one-sided position on controversial historical events, both harms U.S.-Turkish relations and makes it difficult for the Turks and Armenians to have fair historical memory. We expect our American ally not to deepen the problem, but to demonstrate a constructive approach to the solution of the problem, to encourage the Armenian side avoiding the impartial and scientific study of the issue to be realistic and constructive.”

Though Obama has not used the word "genocide" in his April 24 statement regarding what occurred in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, he used the word "Medz Yeghern" (in Armenian Great Disaster) and noted that 1.5 million Armenians underwent disasters and massacres in the Ottoman Empire.
