Baku-APA. Russian national soccer team has been hopefully meet the requirements of the European soccer federation UEFA, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"I hope very much our soccer structures and our team will comply with your plans," Russian professional sports daily quotes Putin as saying during his meeting with the UEFA head Michel Platini in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
Platini came to Sochi to visit the athletes training center for the Winter Olympics due in February 2014 and a soccer stadium which will host the World Cup games in 2018.
"The works are in the full swing," Platini said, adding he expected the Russian team would defeat Brazil during World Cup in 2014. "You'll do away with Brazil", he said.
Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko also took part in the meeting.
Putin promised that he, along with Mutko, would learn French as a sign of gratitude for Platini's support of Mutko candidacy in various international sports organizations.
Mutko has been recently re-elected a member of the UEFA Executive Committee. "We'll learn (French language) together," Putin smiled.
