Türkiye has an influential defense industry base, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said at a press conference following the informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, APA reports.
Rutte said that as NATO, they fully support U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine: “We once again confirm our full support for President Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Our support for Ukraine is not to prolong the war, but to enable the country to defend itself in the future.”
The NATO Secretary General also highlighted Türkiye’s diplomatic role in the region: “Türkiye’s ability to bring parties together is well known. We see this every day,” Rutte said in connection with the Russia-Ukraine peace talks held in Istanbul.
The NATO Secretary General also particularly emphasized the strength of Türkiye’s defense industry: “Türkiye has an influential defense industry base. It cooperates closely with all industrial sectors and countries of the U.S. and Europe.”
According to him, Russia produces as much ammunition in just three months as NATO does in a year. However, Russia’s economic power constitutes only five percent of the combined economic potential of NATO countries.
