Light aircraft crashes into hangar near Warsaw, killing at least five

A Cessna plane crashed into a hangar where people were taking shelter in bad weather, APA reports citing TVP World.

The crash took place during a landing in Chrcynno, some 50 kilometers north of Warsaw. A rescue operation is underway with at least five casualties.

According to Monika Nowakowska-Brynda from the State Fire Service Headquarters, the Cessna plane crashed into a hangar in which 10 people were sheltering from heavy rain and wind.

“Two people are still missing. They are probably under the hangar structure,” she said and added that there are 10 fire crews on site.

“We can cite meteorological conditions as a probable cause,” Nowakowska-Brynda conveyed.

A spokeswoman for the Warsaw Air Rescue Service, Justyna Sochacka, said that initially it was estimated that about 20 people were injured in the crash.

“At this stage, I have no details as to their condition,” she said.

“Rescue and firefighting operations are underway. At the moment, there are 12 people injured, two of them underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” Paweł Plagowski, press officer from the local fire brigade, reported.
