NATO member states are interested in increasing defense spending. Spain, Luxembourg, as well as a number of other states, want to achieve a 2 percent increase in defense spending by the end of the year, Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission said at a briefing, APA reports.

She also commented on the views on increasing support for Ukraine by 5 percent:

"The numbers and the capabilities of the alliance are different concepts. The defense of Ukraine and the organization of the defense of the North Atlantic Alliance are the same concepts. As for the 5 percent increase, the final decision on this will be made by NATO."

K. Kallas, referring to reports of Russia's targeting of civilians, said that this is aimed at causing more damage to Ukraine:

"Organizing regular attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure is contrary to international humanitarian law. Russia does this all the time."
