Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II will be buried at the Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi on March 22, APA’s local bureau reports.
The decision was made by the clergy assembly of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
Note that national mourning has been declared in Georgia following the death of Ilia II, and all events have been postponed. Traditional celebrations planned in the Marneuli district, where many Azerbaijanis live, on the occasion of Novruz and Ramadan holidays have also been canceled.
The supreme religious leader of Georgia passed away yesterday at the age of 93. His burial at the Sioni Cathedral was in accordance with his will.
