Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) wants to focus on a stronger partnership with Africa at the G7 summit, APA reports citing Tellerreport.

"We know that there are huge inequalities between us, the industrialized countries, the G7 countries, and the African states," she said in her video podcast before the meeting in Biarritz, France. Relations with Africa should therefore be further deepened. "Only if Africa develops well will the world as a whole be able to develop well."

According to media reports, Germany wants to present a new initiative for the Sahel countries together with France. According to Spiegel Online, there is more money, equipment and training in the area to increase security there. The two countries were looking for partners for the project at the summit, according to the report.

The theme of the French G7 presidency is "reducing inequalities". According to Chancellor Merkel, for example, it is about eliminating inequalities between men and women. "I hope that we can agree on a clear statement, especially against violence against women." Other topics, such as work-life balance and equal pay, should also be on the agenda, Merkel said in a podcast.
