French MFA: EU to coordinate position on US entry into Ukraine talks

"The countries of the European Union should coordinate their position against the backdrop of the United States joining the negotiating process on Ukraine,"said the head of the French Foreign Ministry Jean-Noel Barrot, commenting on the ongoing discussions in Paris between the foreign ministers of Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Poland and Ukraine, APA reports quoting TASS.

"One of the goals of this meeting is to coordinate the messages we are sending to the American administration, which has decided to fully engage in negotiations," Barro said.

He noted that the Paris meeting is taking place several days after the contacts of the 27 EU countries in Brussels. The minister also expressed the opinion that "negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement should be conducted with the participation of the European Union."

According to Barro, the participants of the Paris meeting "are committed to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine." "Even if an invitation were addressed to Ukraine, the process of joining NATO will take time," the minister noted.
