France and Britain will call on the United Nations to create a safe zone in the Afghan capital of Kabul in order to protect humanitarian operations in the country, French President Emmanuel Macron told Le Journal du Dimanche in an interview published Sunday ahead of an emergency UN meeting, APA reports..
"This is very important. This would provide a framework for the United Nations to act in an emergency,' said Macron. He explained that such a zone would make it possible for the international community "to maintain pressure on the Taliban."
The five permanent members of the UN Security Council: France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and China are scheduled to meet on Monday to discuss the developments in Afghanistan.
