At least three people have reportedly been killed and several others injured after a helicopter crashed in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, APA reports.

The Italian CH-47 helicopter went down in the town of Gorice, near Brčko, on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft was deployed in the country as part of Operation Althea run by EUFOR, the European Union Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The operation oversees the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The Italian ministry of defence said in a statement on X: "This afternoon in Bosnia-Herzegovina, an Italian CH-47 helicopter, engaged in the EUFOR Althea operation, crashed for reasons still under investigation.

"Rescue services promptly intervened. At this time, it is not possible to issue further statements, pending more precise information, especially regarding the health conditions of the personnel."
