An Azerbaijani citizen, who was wanted internationally, has been detained in Albania and extradited to Azerbaijan, press service of the Ministry of Justice told APA.
The whereabouts of Elchin Abdulkhaligov, who had been placed on an international wanted list by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Republic of Azerbaijan, were identified in Albania, leading to his arrest.
It is reported that in 2020, while employed as a sales specialist at "GP Stock Feed" LLC, E. Abdulkhaligov allegedly collected cash payments totaling AZN 78,000 from distributors—funds intended for the company’s treasury—and used them for his own personal purposes.
He has been charged under Article 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation or embezzlement on a large scale).
Following a request by the Prosecutor General's Office and subsequent negotiations, an agreement was reached for his extradition to Azerbaijan.
On October 29, E. Abdulkhaligov was brought to Azerbaijan by officials from the Ministry of Justice’s Main Directorate for International Cooperation and the Penitentiary Service.
He has been placed in the appropriate pre-trial detention center pursuant to a court order for his arrest.
