The European Trio (Germany, the United Kingdom, and France) will not hold negotiations with Iran in Istanbul but will only participate in a single meeting, said a spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry, APA reports.

The German Foreign Ministry official confirmed that representatives from Germany, the UK, and France will hold a meeting with representatives of the Islamic Republic this coming Friday.

He stated that there will be no negotiations with Tehran, but the Iranian nuclear issue will be discussed.

“Germany will be represented at the Istanbul meeting by the German Foreign Ministry’s Political Director, Dominik Mutter. The European side is expected to be briefed on the progress of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program and the details of Tehran-Washington talks,” he added.

Note that Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei stated that the Iran-European Trio meeting in Istanbul will be held at the level of political directors: “The meeting will primarily focus on ongoing consultations with the three countries, including discussions on indirect talks between Tehran and Washington.”

Ali Shamkhani, adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said that Iran is ready to sign a nuclear deal with the U.S. in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

U.S. President Donald Trump also declared that Washington is very close to reaching an agreement with Tehran: “I think we are very close to an agreement with Iran. We are engaged in serious talks with Iran. We do not want to move to the second stage and threaten Iran,” Trump emphasized.

The Trump administration officially presented a proposal for a nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic during the fourth round of nuclear talks held in Oman.
