EU chief says Russia has crossed a “red line” over drone incident

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has accused Russia of carrying out a drone attack on Romanian territory, she said on the social media platform X, APA reports.

The post reads:

"Russia’s war of aggression has crossed yet another line. A Russian drone incursion struck a densely populated area in Romania, injuring civilians. On EU territory. We stand in full solidarity with Romania and its people. As we continue strengthening our security and deterrence, especially on our Eastern border, we will keep increasing the pressure on Russia. We are preparing a 21st package of sanctions."

According to von der Leyen, a Russian drone struck a densely populated area in Romania, injuring civilians.

She stressed that Russia’s war of aggression had crossed another red line and noted that the incident took place on European Union territory. The European Commission President said the EU stands in full solidarity with Romania and its people. 

She added that while strengthening security and deterrence measures, particularly along its eastern borders, the EU would continue increasing pressure on Russia. Von der Leyen also noted that the European Union is preparing its 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
