Decisions regarding the "future of Greenland" can only be made by the island's residents and the people of Denmark, it was stated during a telephone conversation between Canadian and Danish Prime Ministers Mark Carney and Mette Frederiksen, APA reports.

"Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Frederiksen reaffirmed their support for the fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reiterated that decisions regarding Greenland's future are between Greenland and Denmark alone," reads a press release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada following the meeting.

The parties also discussed "ongoing work to strengthen Arctic security," including within NATO, the document notes. In this context, Carney also touched on "opportunities for deeper cooperation" with the Baltic and Nordic countries, the statement adds.
