British ambassador summoned to Georgia

British Ambassador Gareth Ward has been summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the ministry said, APA's local bureau reports.

During a meeting between First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili and the ambassador, the issue of Georgia's compliance with international sanctions regimes was discussed.

It was noted that, given the absence of any evidence of Georgia violating international sanctions and the Georgian authorities' comprehensive cooperation with international partners, continued speculation on the matter remains unfounded.

The MFA expressed concern over the special attention paid to Georgia in the statement issued by the British Embassy regarding the sanctioned vessel SILVAR. It was emphasized that this reinforces false perceptions and serves to deliberately undermine Georgia's interests.

It should be noted that yesterday the British Embassy announced that the United Kingdom had introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia. It was stated that the package also included the SILVAR vessel, which had been present at a Georgian port earlier this year.

The Georgian Maritime Transport Agency noted that the vessel entered a Georgian port at a time when no international sanctions had been imposed on it.
