On Tuesday, the United Kingdom and France will hold the first meeting of defense ministers representing more than 40 countries to coordinate aspects of an international military mission in the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Ministry of Defense announced, APA reports.
"It is expected that, under the leadership of the UK and France, international partners will use the meeting to discuss and determine their military contribution to the defensive mission to open and secure the Strait of Hormuz, when conditions allow," the department said in a statement.
The British Ministry of Defence stressed that the plan is "purely defensive in nature" and aimed at "restoring confidence in commercial shipping on this vital trade route." Specific commitments from the countries are expected to be announced at the ministerial meeting.
