MHP won local elections in 10 regions

Ankara – APA. The candidates of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) won in 10 provinces in the local elections in Turkey, APA reports. From big cities MHP won only in Adana, Aytac Durak, who left AKP and joined MHP before the elections, won 29.95 percent of the votes and was elected for another 5-year term. MHP also won in Balikesir (Ismayil Ok), Bartin (Jemal Akin), Gumushhane (Mustafa Canli), Isparta (Yusif ZIya Gunaydin), Karabuk (Rafet Vergili), Kastamonu (Turhan Topchuoglu), Manisa (Jengiz Ergun), Osmaniyye (Kadir Kara) and Ushak (Ali Erdogan). In 2004 MHP could only win in 4 municipalities. In yesterday’s elections MHP candidates ranked the second after AKP in most regions of Anatolia. MHP’s candidates nominated from Ankara, Mersin, Kars and Igdir took only the second place. In Igdir, where 60 percent of the population is Azerbaijanis, the competition between Nureddin Aras, former head of municipality, who left MHP for AKP, and MHP candidate Ekber Yeshil divided the votes of Azerbaijanis and candidate from Democratic Society Party (DTP) Mehmet Nuri Gunesh won the elections. Former head of municipality Naif Alibeyoglu, who left AKP for CHP, failed in Kars. The main competition in this region was between AKP candidate Nevzat Bozkush and MHP candidate Settar Kaya, the candidate of the ruling party won the elections.
