Bucharest hosts NATO summit
# 02 April 2008 09:11 (UTC +04:00)
APA reports that 3000 people - presidents, prime ministers, government representatives of 26 member states and 23 countries involved in the Partnership for Peace program, representatives of a number of international organizations will attend the summit. Over 3500 media representatives will cover the summit. The main topics of discussion will be NATO’s enlargement, the alliance’s peacekeeping operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
The meetings of North Atlantic Council, North Atlantic Partnership Council, NATO-Russia Council and NATO-Ukraine Commission will be held within the framework of the summit.
Albania, Macedonia and Croatia participating in the NATO Membership Action Plan will be possibly invited for full membership. But the issue related to Macedonia is a little bit complicated. Greece has a province with the same name, and protests to Macedonia’s admission to NATO under this name. Ukrainian and Georgian governments expect that they will be admitted to NATO Membership Action Plan in Bucharest summit. The US actively supports them, while France and Germany are against fearing that their relations with Russia will deteriorate.
