Baku-APA. European Union (EU) foreign ministers on Monday made no decision on whether to boycott the Euro 2012 football championship matches played in Ukraine over the treatment of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"We are not at the stage of making decisions on attendance, but we will follow developments carefully and consider what happens next," she told reporters after the meeting of foreign ministers.

"It was not a conversation when people disagreed. It was a conversation when we talked about the importance of football, the importance of politicians being politicians, the importance of working together to see what happens in the future," she said.

Ashton said she would discuss the issue on Tuesday with visiting Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, who is scheduled to attend a meeting of EU-Ukraine Cooperation Council.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive, has decided that none of its top officials will travel to Ukraine during the tournament to protest the alleged abuse of Tymoshenko, who is serving her seven-year sentence in a prison and launched a hunger strike last month.
