Three men held in Denmark for suspected terror plot
The suspects, who were charged with illegal possession of automatic weapons and ammunition, did not appeal the judgment. They will be held in isolation until May 10.
The hearing was conducted behind closed doors as the police had requested to examine the case without the public following all details of their investigation.
The suspects have only been identified as a resident 22-year-old Jordanian national, a resident 23-year-old Turkish national and a 21-year-old Danish national resident in Egypt, according to PET, the Danish security and intelligence service.
At the hearing, the 22-year-old acknowledged contributing to the illegal possession of weapons, while the other two men declared themselves not guilty.
The men were arrested in the Copenhagen area on Friday, following an action in connection with a terror investigation by PET. PET suspected the men were preparing for a terrorist act, but chose to pursue charges related only to illegal weapons possession.
The 22-year-old suspect met Thursday with an unknown man at the Hareskov local train station, where he arranged delivery of two AK-47 automatic rifles and appropriate ammunition, according to reports from Danish news agency Ritzau.
Late Thursday, the second suspect met the same unknown man at the same station, to collect the weapons and ammunition. On Friday morning, the second suspect met the third suspect at Herlev local train station to pass on the weapons, when they were arrested by PET. The first suspect was later arrested at his home in the Herlev area of Copenhagen.
The unknown man who delivered the weapons remains at large, Ritzau said.
The Copenhagen police is also involved in the investigation to ensure any possible threats have been addressed and averted by the arrests.
On Friday, investigators conducted raids at several Copenhagen addresses in connection with the investigation, detaining another six people and impounding a few vehicles for examination.
The six detainees were to be released after questioning and not be produced before a judge, the police said late Friday.
