Hollande favors military action in Syria under UN mandate

Baku-APA. French socialist presidential candidate Francois Hollande Friday said he was favorable to France’s participation in demanding a military intervention in Syria under UN mandate, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"If it is done in the framework of the UN ... we will participate in this intervention," said the 57-year-old socialist candidate who is leading in polls for the upcoming presidential election on radio Europe1.

His statement came one day after a high profile meeting in Paris which gathered a dozen of leaders and diplomatic chiefs from Western and Arabic countries to review the situation in Syria.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe on Friday told local channel BFMTV that France is mulling over a new draft resolution for the Security Council to deploy a larger mission to Syria, noting that "we have to give the Annnan mission every chance to succeed, including a strong force of 500 observers."

"This is our last chance to avoid civil war (in Syria)," Juppe warned.
