Peter Semneby: â€œI welcome the independence of post-soviet republicsâ€

Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh â€“ APA. â€œWe are satisfied with the cooperation of post-soviet countries with the European Union and it is our responsibilityâ€, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Swedish diplomat Peter Semneby told APAâ€™s Georgian bureau.

According to him, the EU countries, including Sweden started to pay attention to this issue after USSRâ€™s collapse: â€œI worked and lived in Moscow in 1980s. As a Swedish diplomat, I was engaged very much in establishing relations with Baltic countries, as well as the USSR countries. I welcome the independence of these countriesâ€.

Semneby noted that the soviet republics have developed successfully since the USSRâ€™s collapse: â€œThe main purpose now is the establishing reliable relations both in economic and strategic spheresâ€.
