Baku-APA. German prosecutors said on Tuesday they are investigating 16 people related to the Love Parade held in German city Duisburg last summer, which turned sour and killed 21 people and injured more than 500, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The people under investigation include a police officer, city workers and employees of Lopavent company, the music festival’s organizer, the prosecutor’s office said.

However, the mayor of the host city Duisburg, Adolf Sauerland, who has been seriously criticized for this incident and asked to resign, is not in the probe list, nor is Rainer Schaller, the event organizer, head of Lopavent.

Sauerland said on Tuesday that no city employees violated their responsibilities and that he would do everything in his power to support those workers.

Over the past six months, 2,200 witnesses have provided testimony, and investigators have analyzed numerous photos, hundreds of hours of video and several terabytes of electronic data as they pieced together the day’s tragic events and gradually locked the suspects.

The list of suspects may be enlarged in the future, the prosecutor’s office said.
