Hungarian parliament elects Laszlo Kover as new speaker

Baku-APA. Hungarian parliament, in which the governing Fidesz party holds a two-thirds majority, elected party stalwart and steering committee chief Laszlo Kover to the speaker’s post on Thursday, to replace Pal Schmitt, who was elected president of Hungary last month, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Kover was elected with 304 votes in favor and 50 opposed. He was born on Dec. 29, 1959. He holds a law degree, is a founding member of the Fidesz party. He served as minister in charge of Hungary’s civilian secret services from July 1998 to May 2000, under the previous Orban-led administration and has been a Member of Parliament since 1990.

Kover is married and has three children.
