51 kg of heroin seized in eastern Turkey

Baku-APA. Turkish police on Saturday seized 51. 5 kilograms of heroin in the province of Bitlis in eastern Turkey, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency
Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped and searched a car on the Bitlis-Diyarbakir inter-city highway, finding the haul stashed in special compartments of the car, said the report, adding that the driver of the car was taken under custody.
In a separate operation in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Saturday, the Turkish police seized 234 kilograms of hashish in a truck, and detained its driver, according to the report.
On Friday, acting on a tip-off, Turkish gendarmeny forces staged an operation in Aksu town of the southern province of Antalya and impounded 165 kilograms of hashish.
The gendarmery forces detained two suspected people in connection with the haul.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe.
