Baku-APA. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has planned to be in Berlin on Monday for a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to the president’s schedule published by the Elysee Palace on Saturday, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.
French media widely regarded Sarkozy’s visit as an effort to tune coordination over financial positions with Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, before the forthcoming summits of the Group of 20 and the Group of 8 later this month in Canada.
In their last telephone conversation on May 20, the two leaders reached general agreement that their countries would closely coordinate with each other, especially within the framework of European Council.
They also agreed to prepare together for the upcoming European Council on June 17, which contains the important agenda of adopting the European Growth Strategy, and for the G20 and G8 Summits, a previous statement by the Elysee Palace said.
