Mircea Geoana claims victory in presidential elections in Romania

Baku – APA. Romania voted in the second round of the presidential elections on December 6. Both candidates claimed victory in the presidential election, APA reports quoting ITAR-TASS. Leading researcher center of the country declared the former Prime Minister Mircea Geoana a winner, but incumbent President Traian Basescu expressed his confidence in the victory and called on his supporters to be calm and to wait for the official results. Geoana’s supporters already started to celebrate the victory. In his televised address, the former prime minister thanked his voters and associates.
The researcher company INSOMAR said Geoana gained 51.6 % of votes. According to CCSB, he won 51.2%, CURS – 50.8 %. The central election Commission said 56.99 % of the voters participated in the voting. First round of the elections took place on November 22.
