Mircea Geoana claims victory in presidential elections in Romania

Baku â€“ APA. Romania voted in the second round of the presidential elections on December 6. Both candidates claimed victory in the presidential election, APA reports quoting ITAR-TASS. Leading researcher center of the country declared the former Prime Minister Mircea Geoana a winner, but incumbent President Traian Basescu expressed his confidence in the victory and called on his supporters to be calm and to wait for the official results. Geoanaâ€™s supporters already started to celebrate the victory. In his televised address, the former prime minister thanked his voters and associates.
The researcher company INSOMAR said Geoana gained 51.6 % of votes. According to CCSB, he won 51.2%, CURS â€“ 50.8 %. The central election Commission said 56.99 % of the voters participated in the voting. First round of the elections took place on November 22.
