18-year-old Cem Garipoglu wanted for 197 days was handed over to the police by his lawyer Aytekin Kaya on September 17. Cem Garipoglu phoned his lawyer at 00.30 and said he was in Bahcelievler, Istanbul. The lawyer met with Garipoglu there and informed the police. The police immediately arrived at the site and took him over. He was examined and taken to the police office. Istanbul governor Muammar Guler, head of Turkish police headquarters Oguz Kaan and chief of Istanbul police office Huseyn Capkin came to the police office and made official statement.

Aytekin Kaya spoke about some details of Garipoglu’s surrender. He said though while hiding Cem grew beard, he was neatly dressed. The lawyer did not ask Garipoglu where he had hidden and who had advised him to surrender. While waiting for the police Cem Garipoglu told his lawyer that he was hungry. The lawyer bought bread and sausage in the nearby market and gave him.
“While Cem was eating I was asking myself if he is indeed a criminal,” Aytekin Kaya said.

Cem Garipoglu said to the police:
“I was concerned over my father’s arrest. My family has nothing to do with this crime. You do not know much about this crime. I will speak everything,” he said.

Cem Garipoglu’s family is one of the famous families in Turkey. On the day when the crime was committed, Cem invited his girlfriend Munevver Karabulut, 18, to their villa in Etiler. After Munevver came, Cem went to a neighboring shop and bought a kitchen knife. It is not known whether there are other people in the villa at that time. Karabulut was killed and beheaded in the villa. The body was dumped. After that Cem Garipoglu disappeared. According to some reports he was hiding in Russia, Armenia and China.
