G8 leaders issue declaration on Iran

Baku â€“APA. G8 leaders issued a join declaration on Iran in the first day of their summit in the central Italian city of L’Aquila on July 8, APA reports quoting AFP. They expressed serious concern over the political crisis in Iran after the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Iranâ€™s nuclear program as well.
The leaders criticized the Iranian regime’s violent crackdown on anti-government protesters and called on Iran to stop violence and repressions.
They also called on Iran to cooperate with the international community on its nuclear program and to fulfill the UN resolutions.
However the declaration didnâ€™t threaten Iran with sanctions in the case of its refusal to meet their summons.
The G8 leaders issued statements on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and war on terror as well.
The summit will be finished on July 10.
