PACE discusses two reports on Georgia-Russia conflict

Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli – APA. PACE held hearing of two reports on Georgia-Russia conflict on April 29, APA European bureaus. First debates were held on the fulfillment of PACE resolution 1647 by Georgia and Russia. Then humanitarian consequences of the Georgia-Russia war and fulfillment of the resolution 1648 were discussed. Monitoring Committee rapporteurs Luke van den Brande and Matias Jorschi spoke about the fulfillment of first resolution.

The resolution 1647 was passed by PACE in January, 2009. The rapporteurs said they were not satisfied completely with the Georgia’s commitments and regretted that Russia didn’t make progresses and didn’t take the number of recommendations made in the document. The parliamentarians expressed their concern over the situation in the region and said humanitarian situation in the region was sorrowful, consequences of the war were not lifted completely, and all efforts made for normalization of the situation failed. The parliamentarians emphasized the importance of dialogue between the conflicted parts with involving the international community, as well as promotion of the activity of civil society.
