Two killed, seven injured in anti-terror operation in Istanbul

Police engaged in a shootout with three terrorists reportedly being members of the so-called revolutionary Movement radical leftist organization hided in the first floor of a building in Kadikoy’s Bostanci quarter at 05.30 in the morning, APA reports quoting the Turkish newspapers. One policeman and a passer-by were killed and six policemen and NTV cameraman Ilhan Kandaz were injured in five-hour shootout. Kandaz was wounded in ear and doctors said his condition was satisfied. Five hours later after the incident the TV and Radio Council banned live broadcasting from the site. Istanbul police chief Celalettin Cerrah and Governor Muammer Guler watched the developments at site. The traffic was banned in nearby streets. Police used gas bombs during the operation. Journalists said a body was pulled out from the building after the operation.

Two were arrested and large deal of explosives was found during the operation in Baghcilar. Interior Minister Beshir Atalay left Ankara for Istanbul.
