MHP: The aim of new arrest wave is to distract attention from reopening of the borders with Armenia

Co-chair of MHP parliamentary faction Mehmet Shandir said they respected the independence of judicial system and said the waves of arrests worried the people.Shandir said they believed that rector of Bashkent University and owner of Kanal B, Professor Mehmet Haberal was innocent.
“I do not believe that honorable Haberal may commit any action against democracy, republic. Haberal is a person serving the nation. We are concerned that instead of assessing his achievements, such an incident occurs,†he said.
Shandir said there were a lot of serious problems in the country and accused the government of attempting to change the agenda.
“Whenever the government has problems, wave of arrests begin. There is issue on Azerbaijan on the agenda. The issue on reopening of borders with Armenia, which will be a historical mistake of Turkey, is being discussed. It is impossible to assess the new wave of arrests, while the society is discussing the promises made and steps taken by AKP behind closed doors,†he said.
Mehmet Shandir said that way would favor neither Turkey, nor Turkish nation.
