An agreement on transportation of Azeri oil through Russia signed between Azerbaijan and Russia on January 18, 1996 was annulled in May. Russian side stated that the agreement considers transportation of at least 5 mln tonnes of Azeri oil per year, but Moscow faced losses due to official Baku has not fulfill the obligation. Thereafter, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said that transportation of Azeri oil through Russia under these conditions will be continued by the end of 2013. In parallel with this, negotiations on transportation of oil through Russia under the commercial conditions will be conducted. If the sides reach an agreement, Azeri oil will be transported through Russia under the commercial conditions from 2014.
Igor Dyomin said that the sides have not reached an agreement on transportation tariff, exactly, official Baku has not rejected the tariffs proposed by Russia.
