According to APA-Economics, the conference aims to draw attention of the society to oil-contaminated areas and environmental protection, as well as complexly analyze current situation of environment for regional sustainable development, share experience on usage new methods and technologies in studying different components of the environment, draft proposals on environmental protection.
SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said that the ecology was seriously damaged as a result of inexperience in the first years. According to him, 1,300 ha area has been recultivated: “200,000 trees and bushes have been plated here per year. It’s prevented emission of 560 mln m³ to the atmosphere”.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Bagirov noted that 8 national parks were built in Azerbaijan during past 10 years. Protected area reached 1 mln ha from 400 ml ha.
BP Group spokesman Steven Plinn noted that the main goal is to deliver energy to the world safely. According to him, more than 50% climate projects have been realized by 2013: “Security in the areas that BP operates is provided”.
Thereafter, a video message of the Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Founder and Director of the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) Leyla Aliyeva has been presented to the participants.
