Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-ECONOMICS. Iran hopes to join the Nabucco project as a gas supplier to export its natural gas to Europe, said Hasan Turbati, manager of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), at the Gas Infrastructure World Caspian-2009.

He added that the Nabucco gas pipeline is very convenient, but not the only option for exports.

"For exporting our gas to Europe, we would be happy to choose this project, otherwise we will consider other options, in particular Persian pipeline, and other routes passing through Syria and Greece. However, Iran would be better to join the Nabucco project,” he added.

He noted that Iran is the only country which could provide the most reliable and reasonable gas supplies to Europe. Thus, Iran is No. 2 in the world for daily gas production and a 5-year plan for the country’s gas industry will help to transform Iran into the main exporter,” he said.
