Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s industry will continue to depend on oil and gas for next 10-15 years, said Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.

According to him, the country’s energy and industry sectors have made great strides and Azerbaijan has become an electricity exporter.

”There is a need to improve the legal framework for the development of non-oil sector, the protection of domestic market and streamlining of business environment. Today Azerbaijan supplies not only its domestic demand for electricity, but also exports electricity to neighbouring countries,” he added.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan plans to increase energy production to 10 000 megawatts in the short term.

“Of this, we need 5 000 megawatts for domestic demand and the rest will be exported. We are currently exporting about 1000 megawatts to Russia, Iran, Georgia and Turkey.
“After Black Sea power transmission ring is established, Azerbaijan will export electricity to this region as well,” he added.

In his words, a plan of action is being prepared for the development of the industry, especially chemical and engineering sectors.
