Azerbaijan and Cuba to sign a deal on cooperation in energy sphere

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Azerbaijanâ€™s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev has met in Baku with the co-chairman of the Azerbaijan-Cuba Intergovernmental Commission, Cuban Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Ricardo Guerrero.

The Ministry of Industry and Energy said Natig Aliyev, recalling that Azerbaijan exported oil equipment to Cuba during the Soviet period, suggested reviewing the relationship between the two countries, and also stressed that the participation of Azerbaijani specialists in the petroleum sector of Cuba may contribute to mutual cooperation.

The guest briefed Azeri minister about the current situation of Cuba’s oil industry, saying that there are 11 foreign companies in the oil sector and invited Azerbaijan to cooperate in this regard.

According to him, the official Havana has submitted to Azeri Government a draft agreement on cooperation in the energy sector.

He also said that 90% of professionals working in Cubaâ€™s oil sector studied in Azerbaijan State Oil Academy during the USSR period.

He said that Cuba takes interest in the resumption of cooperation with Azerbaijan in this field.

During the meeting they touched upon the exchange of experience in the use of alternative and renewable energy.
