Azerbaijan will see a 8.5% increase in Shah Deniz gas output in 2009

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. During the first quarter of 2009 Shah Deniz produced 2 billion cubic meters of gas and 0.5 million tonnes of condensate, said BP-Azerbaijan.

According to the project operator, Shah Deniz produces an average of 22 million cubic meters of gas per day and five wells at Shah Deniz produce 45 000 barrels of condensate per day.

Plateau production from Stage 1 will be 8.6 billion cubic meters of gas per annum and approximately 45,000 barrels of condensate per day, said the company.

BP-Azerbaijan said Shah Deniz is expected to produce 7.7 billion cubic meters of gas and 1.9 million tonnes of condensate in 2009, compared to 7.1 billion cubic meters of gas and 1.8 million tonnes of condensate in 2008.

According to the company, the project spent $35 million in operating expenditure and $87 million in capital expenditure during the first quarter.

Shah Deniz Phase 2 is expected to achieve a landmark of 30 billion cubic meters per annum.
Shah Deniz participating interests are: BP (operator – 25.5%), StatoilHydro (25.5%), SOCAR (10%), LUKOIL (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%).
