Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline exports 65 million barrels of oil in 1Q09

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. BP-Azerbaijan has announced that it exported 8.7 million tonnes (65 million barrels) of oil through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline during the first quarter 2009.

According to the company, in total 32.9 million tonnes (245.6 million barrels) of oil and condensate were exported through this route in 2008.

Following the final commissioning of new BTC pump stations and facilities in Azerbaijan and Georgia, BTC reached its design capacity of one million barrels of oil a day (approximately 50 million tonnes per year) in mid-2008 and BP-Azerbaijan achieved the pipeline’s design capacity of 1.2 million barrels of oil a day in March 2009.

Since the launch of the BTC pipeline, 760 tankers took on board 80 million tonnes (600 million barrels) of Azeri Light crude oil at the Ceyhan Port in Turkey.

The BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1%); AzBTC (25.00%); Chevron (8.90%); StatoilHydro (8.71%); TPAO (6.53%); ENI (5.00%); Total (5.00%), Itochu (3.40%); INPEX (2.50%), ConocoPhillips (2.50%) and Hess (2.36%).
