Rustam Usubov: Some try to tarnish referendum, such cases must be prevented

The main duty of the prosecutor's offices on referendum is to consider received appeals, explain the essence of the amendment to the constitution, the First Deputy General Prosecutor Rustam Usubov said at the seminar held by Central Election Commission for chairmen of Constituency Election Commissions (Con.EC).

Usubov stressed positive dynamic is observed in the election process: “This is related to awareness, explanation of requirement of the legislation. Intervention of individuals and legal entities in the referendum process is inadmissible”.

Usubov said some are already trying to tarnish the referendum by distributing sheets saying “no amendments in the constitution”: “The prosecutor’s offices and law-enforcement agencies will prevent such cases. We’ll provide holding of the referendum at the highest level”.
